Rangers have signed ‘most talented’ defender to their coaching staff

RTE 1/11 Paul McManaman – Scotland defender Paul McMann, 24, has signed on to join Rangers as the club look to build their ranks from scratch.

The 20-year-old joined the club from Brentford on loan last summer after spending last season on loan at Sheffield United.

McMann has also featured in Scotland’s Under-20 Championship and the Scottish Premiership and was named Scottish Young Player of the Year for his performances for Brentford last season.

Rangers boss Derek McInnes said: “We have signed a player of tremendous quality who is a player who can play on both sides of the ball.

He’s a player with great attributes and I am sure that he will make an immediate contribution to the squad as we continue our rebuild.”

McMans father, former Celtic defender Chris McManamans, added: “I am delighted to have secured this player to my coaching staff.

I know that he is a man of outstanding character and I have a great respect for his character.

He’s a young man who has great potential.

I think he will be a great addition to our football club and to our coaching staff.”

The Scotland Under-21s won the Under-19 Championship last season and the Under 16s, which were the only two clubs to qualify for the play-offs, are currently fourth in the Scottish Championship table.

McManamann joins Rangers after spending two years at Brentford, where he helped the Terriers finish second in the Championship last term and finish runners-up to Scottish champions Celtic in the Champions League.

He is the second signing to be made this summer following former Celtic star Kyle Walker signing on to be an assistant coach.

Walker’s contract at Celtic expires in the summer, while McManamus, who has also played for Brent, was one of the first players to sign for the club after joining from Celtic.

Ranger have already confirmed the signing of former Celtic player and Scotland Under 21s player Danny Murphy as their new manager, and the club will look to add further talent in the coming weeks.

The club’s new £1.5m signing is a new signing, with former Celtic and England defender David Wagner also joining on loan from the club.RANGERS head to Cardiff on Saturday, where they will face Cardiff City, who have just beaten Preston North End 2-1.
