Auburn is one of the most popular schools in the country, but the Tigers are also one of its worst.

That’s according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings.

Here’s what you need to know about the Tigers’ recruiting class, as well as how they rank in the rest of the SEC.

1.

What is the SEC?

It’s the most powerful conference in the world, but it’s also one that’s been plagued with some of the biggest issues the sport has faced in recent years.

Alabama was ranked No. 1 by 247Sports in 2016, but lost its first two games to Texas A&”lls SEC rivals, LSU and Tennessee, before falling to Vanderbilt in the semifinals.

The Crimson Tide have never lost a conference game since then.

Alabama’s current top recruiter, Jedd Fisch, was hired to be the Tigers head coach, and his first recruiting class for the 2017 season included five players from the state of Alabama.

2.

What’s Auburn recruiting like?

Auburn’s recruiting efforts have been under a microscope since 2015, when a slew of recruits committed to the school to attend the school’s new, shiny, and very expensive, football-centric stadium in Birmingham.

The stadium opened in 2017, but some of its problems were quickly fixed.

In addition to recruiting, the Tigers have invested heavily in their facilities, with a $50 million renovation of the athletic facility in 2017 and an additional $50,000 renovation in 2018.

In 2018, the school also invested $10 million in a new stadium.

3.

How big is Auburn’s class?

Auburn currently ranks No. 17 in the 247Sports composite rankings, and it’s ranked in the top 20 nationally.

In total, the program has 14 players on its roster who are committed to attend Auburn in the 2018 recruiting class.

It’s also the most expensive recruiting class in the nation, with $18 million spent on players in the 2017 class.

4.

Who is Auburn recruiting?

247Sports has a list of Auburn players, which includes seven players who are currently committed to attending the Tigers in the next recruiting class: DE Elijah Qualls, WR Chris Davis, DT Jordan Crawford, DE Malik McDowell, DT Tyler Jones, DT Tyeon Joseph, DT Dwayne Haskins, LB Darnell Sankey, CB Deandre Davis, QB Jordan Washington, CB Isaiah Jackson, S Marcus Davis, S Jonathan McLaughlin, TE D.J. Williams, and QB Austin Johnson.

The Tigers have one player currently committed from outside of the state, WR Isaiah Brown, who is currently a true freshman at Auburn.

5.

Who has been the most impressive recruit of the 2017 recruiting class?

A&m recruit Jamal Crawford, who was ranked as the No. 2 player in the state by 247 Sports.

Crawford had four top-10 recruits on his list, including quarterback Blake Barnett, and four-star defensive end Jourdan Lewis.

He was also No. 9 overall by Rivals, and he also committed to Auburn.

6.

How did Auburn get the best recruits?

Alabama had to work hard to get the most out of the 2015 class.

A&am recruited eight players to the top 50, and two of them are currently in the Auburn program.

Four of those recruits, DE Jamal Crawford and LB Zach Boren, were rated the No.”1 overall recruits by 247, while five others, DT Malik McDowdy, LB Deon King, DE Justin Thompson, and RB Elijah Quall, were ranked No.”2.

How do the Tigers compare to other SEC schools?

Alabama is ranked fourth nationally by 247Sightline, and its 2016 class was ranked fourth by 247Composite.

LSU has the third-most Top-50 recruiting class nationally with five.

Auburn is ranked second, behind Alabama, but also ahead of Tennessee, which is ranked third.

Auburn has the most top-25 prospects nationally, with five, followed by LSU, Tennessee, and Tennessee Tech.

7.

Is Auburn the SEC’s favorite team to play?

Auburn hasn’t had to face a Top-25 team in its entire recruiting history, and while its two losses to Tennessee in the past few years have been very close, Auburn has a solid record against the SEC in its past five games.

The Tiger offense is an efficient, balanced attack that puts up big numbers, and Auburn’s defense is ranked in both the top 10 and the top 12 in both defensive rating and scoring defense, according to Rivals.com.

8.

Is there anything to expect in 2018?

Auburn has to win a bowl game to get to No. 3 nationally, and that’s going to be difficult given the Tigers loss of offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator Nick Saban.

If Auburn wins a bowl and takes out Alabama, it would be a huge boost to the program.

However, if the Tigers lose to Alabama in the opener,
